History

The Bachelor was the RPI campus humor magazine from 1952-71. It began publication after its predecessor The Pup (April 1924-51) ceased publication. It existed for thirteen years before I arrived as a freshman in 1965. Shown on the right is the V6 1958 Soiree issue (the earliest one I have). It floundered a bit with some experimentation into the drug culture of the mid 1960's but began making a comeback in 1968-69.

After I graduated, I heard that it had been booted off campus for a joke or cartoon that violated the increasing ``political correctness" on campus. It was replaced by The Unicorn (1972-83).

What type of man reads the Bachelor?

Is a good sense of humor a reflection of a good sense-of-life, or does it indicate your intellectual bancrupcy? Ask Dr. Kenner
